Chemical Peels Q&A

What are chemical peels?

A chemical peel is a solution that precisely removes the surface layer of your skin through deep exfoliation to minimize the signs of aging.

The skin consists of three layers: the epidermis (top layer), dermis (middle), and hypodermis (bottom). The epidermis shows most of your aging symptoms because of its exposure to environmental factors, makeup, and sun damage. Removing the surface of the epidermis allows you to see the clearer, untouched skin underneath.

Which skin concerns can chemical peels treat?

Chemical peels can target many skin concerns and common signs of aging, such as:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Brown spots
  • Acne scars
  • Uneven skin tone or texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Dry or oily skin
  • Dull skin

A chemical peel can target multiple skin concerns at once. If you’re already satisfied with the overall appearance of your skin, chemical peels can enhance your complexion.

What are the different types of chemical peels?

There are three depths of chemical peels to choose from:

Light peels

A light peel is the gentlest type. This treatment exfoliates the outer surface of your skin to address fine lines, acne, and uneven skin tone. You can typically return for light chemical peels about once a month.

Medium peels

Medium peels penetrate the epidermis and the top layer of the dermis to minimize fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and acne scars.

Deep peels

A deep peel targets the cells even deeper in the dermis than a medium-depth treatment. Deep wrinkles and scars typically respond well to deep peels.

What is a VI Peel?

The VI Peel is a medium-depth chemical peel that combines trichloroacetic acid (TCA), phenol, salicylic acid, vitamin C, and tretinoin to minimize the signs of aging. The VI Peel is customizable, so the team can target your unique skin concerns without social downtime. The entire treatment is painless and takes only about 30 minutes.

What can I expect after VI Peel?

About four to six hours after you return home, you can wash off your VI Peel. You can expect your skin to peel for up to three days after the treatment. Over the next few days and weeks, your skin should appear brighter, smoother, and clearer.
